COLLABORATIVE DRUG THERAPY AGREEMENT
A Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreement is an agreement between pharmacists and authorized prescribers, generally physicians, which allows for the initiation, modification or discontinuation of medication therapy by pharmacists for patients. CDTA can also be referred to as collaborative drug therapy management. Washington was one of the first states to implement CDTA. Through this mechanism, a prescriber can lawfully authorize pharmacists to prescribe medications directly to patients often without the patient having to make a prior visit or consult with a physician. This section explains basic information surrounding CDTAs and pre-planning considerations.
