Advanced Practice Toolkits for Emergency Preparedness

Partnerships in Focus

Public Health Seattle & King County Advance Practice Center recently had the opportunity to showcase several of our innovative new toolkits and work with our partner site based out of Mesa County Colorado at the Association for Community Health Improvement Conference in Austin Texas. Mesa County APC was promoting their new Blueprint toolkit tackling the challenging topic of including volunteers in a public health emergency plan and we where able to promote our translation and public engagement toolkits as well as our innovative new comic series Survivor Tales! Both the Survivor Tales comic series and our innovative Translation toolkit were of particular interest and we gave away more than 200 copies in less than four hours!!!

This conference is considered one of the cutting edge forums for public health professionals working to increase the overall health of the community in their fields. Conference topics ranged from establishing and maintaining Healthcare Coalitions to the role of public health ethics in determining the future of public health practice and policy in the age of decreasing funding.

On Thursday, the keynote speaker, Emily Friedman, gave a stirring talk detailing specific examples in healthcare policy where we are often challenged by the current healthcare system.  She encouraged providers to find new ways of thinking when it came to providing top-notch care to their patients. Ms. Friedman pointed to several case studies where the gaps between insurance coverage and healthcare decision-making can often become complicated and suggested resources for providers who are struggling with making some of those “higher cost” decisions.

For full information on the conference as well as some of the information regarding specific speakers make sure to check out their website, it is a wealth of information.
